The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has organised an in-house training on transformational leadership capacity for 50 of it’s officers.
The 3-day training which began Wednesday is organized in partnership with the Institute of National Transformation (INT) with the theme ”Building Transformational leadership capacities – imperative to meeting the current security challenges in Nigeria”.
The event which is the initiative of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin,is organized by the Department of Defence Transformation and innovation at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The CDS in his remarks stated that he directed the Department of Defence Transformation and Innovation to organize this training in order to empower military officers with requisite leadership skills and knowledge. ”It is exemplary that many organisations have acquired such human capacity and programme of this nature to improve the efficiency of their personnel and enhance their level of productivity.
This is particularly important at a time the Armed Forces of Nigeria is undergoing a process of innovation and change. It is hoped that the 3-day training will expose you to drivers and desirables of organizational change management in the armed forces of Nigeria” he said.
Represented by the Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation, Maj Gen I Attahiru, the CDS stated that the training is expected to launch the Armed Forces of Nigeria personnel into more strategic capacity development. The participants were enjoined to make good use of this opportunity to improve their skills through the engagement of resources during and after the programme.
Emphasising the importance of capacity building for officers and the need for the participants to take the exercise seriously, he equally urged everyone to participate during the interactive session.
Delivering the lecture, Director General INT, Prof Vincent C. Anigbogu stated that the objective of the training is to enhance officers’ capacities in identifying barriers and drivers to implementation of policies that will enhance the CDS’ vision, which is to ensure a well motivated driven and equipped armed forces that is responsible to National security challenges among other things. Prof Anigbogu further stated that the training is expected to inspire all transformational initiatives, organisational change and strategic management.
