Former Head of state General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) has made a case for improved budgetary allocation to the National Defence College (NDC). This he said will help it accomplish its role in capacity building for defence management in Nigeria.
General Abubakar made the call, recently when he delivered a lecture titled CAPACITY BUILDING FOR DEFENCE MANAGEMENT THE ROLE OF NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE OF to mark Silver jubilee anniversary of the college.
He observed that because of the quality of education offered by the college, graduands of the institution have continue to impact positively to defence management in Nigeria and several countries through capacity building. He appealed to the appropriate authority to consider the possibility of elevating the NDC to a National Defence University with full National University Commission accreditation to award Masters and Doctorate degrees respectively.
General Abdulsalami Abubakar who was the Special Guest of Honour at the event noted that since the establishment of the National Defence College (formerly National War College) on 16th June 1992, the college has successfully trained a total of 2,001 senior military officers and their civilian counterparts. He congratulated the Commandant of the College Rear Admiral Samuel Alade for his giant strides in transforming the College both in terms of academic and infrastructure development.
Dignitaries at the occasion included the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, who is a distinguished alumni of the College, representatives of the Service Chiefs, heads of security agencies, some past Commandants of NDC and members of the diplomatic corps.
