A coalition of youths under the umbrella of the “National Youth Council of Nigeria” (NYCN) Thursday staged a peaceful rally to the Defence Headquarters seeking enhanced Salary, welfare package and the provision of advanced military equipment to the military to tackle the Nigeria security challenges in the country.
The youths numbering about 50 carried banners with the theme: “NIGERIA YOUTHS, SUPPORT OUR SECURITY AGENCIES” said the Nigeria military deserves the collective respect from Nigerians for their doggedness in fighting insurgency particularly Boko Haram Terrorists in the North East, kidnappings, illegal oil bunkering in the Niger- Delta, herders and farmers clashes, cultism and cattle rustling in Nigeria.
President of the group Comrade Murtala Muhammed Garba lauded the efforts and sacrifices of members of the armed forces, security agencies and those who paid the supreme price for Nigeria to be a united and indivisible country. They urged the federal government to ameliorate the plight of widows of fallen heroes, military retirees and other security agencies who are on the line of fire to keep Nigeria one.
Receiving the youth outside the Defence Headquarters gate, the director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu thanked them on behalf of the military and conveyed the appreciation of the military high command to the youths for their concern. He assured them that the military will keep on performing its duties of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria and the lives of Nigerians in line with international best practices.
Brigadier General Chukwu later collected a souvenir from the youth leader for the Chief of Army Staff, Lt- General Tukur Buratai.
