President Muhammadu Buhari, alongside Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan, Speaker House of Representatives, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Ministers, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, His Lordship, Justice Ibrahim Mohammed, amongst other government functionaries, including members of the Diplomatic Corps graced the Special Presidential Change of Guards/Silent Drill Display in commemoration of Nigeria’s 59th Independence Anniversary Celebration, held today at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The main activities that featured during the anniversary ceremony was the Special Presidential Change of Security Guards between the Outgone Guards provided by 177 Guards Battalion, Nigerian Army and the new security guards which is now provided by 7 Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army.
Other activities that featured during the event were weapons inspection, patrol of both the National and Regimental colours of the new Guards.
Silent drill and rifle display, as well as a combined display by the Guards Band and the Silent drill Squad which also added glamour to the event.
Climax of the Independence anniversary ceremony, was the presentation/submission of handover Security Reports to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, who then signed the Independence Day Anniversary Register.
Mr President went ahead to release the anniversary pigeons, symbolizing unity, peace and freedom of our dear country Nigeria.
President Buhari equally performed the cutting of the Anniversary Cake to commemorate the 59th Independence anniversary.
