UK DEFENCE ACADEMY TO SUPPORT DHQ TRANSFORMATION POLICY

A delegation from the United Kingdom Defence Academy has reaffirmed its resolve to provide military support to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) to overcome its myriad security challenges and assist the DHQ transformation efforts.

This was disclosed when a team led by Professor Ann FitzGerald of the United Kingdom Defence academy visited the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin at the Defence Headquarters Abuja.

Professor FitzGerald commended the CDS for his purposeful Leadership quality and stated that the United Kingdom is willing to support the Nigerian Defence strategic operational policies and provide leadership training on Defence transformation

General Olonisakin thanked the UK Defence Academy for their constant support and briefed the team on the operational policies of the Defence Headquarters, progress on the rehabilitation and reintegration of the repentant insurgents and displaced persons in the country.

He noted that the security challenges in the country are peculiar and the Defence Headquarters is responding to the emerging situations. However, he observed that some of the challenges of DHQ are inadequate funding, expertise and lack of peer review literature. The CDS said the Defence Headquarters will always appreciate support from agencies and Nations in her quests to defeat terrorist elements in Nigeria

The CDS was represented by the Director of Policy and Plans at the Defence Headquarters Major General A A Salihu Some principal staff officers at DHQ were also at hand to receive the UK team

The British Defence Attaché and a senior official of the UK Defence Academy accompanied Professor FitzGerald during the visit
